Instead I&#8217;m sitting at home blogging and clearing old email. It seems the seas were too high for safety&#8211;5-9 foot swells and 10-15 knot winds&#8211;so the captain called off the trip. The next New York trip isn&#8217;t till December. I&#8217;ve already done a winter trip this year so I&#8217;ll probably skip that one. Maybe there&#8217;ll be another trip next September.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Pelagic expeditions are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elharo.com\/blog\/birding\/2006\/02\/12\/331-335-at-the-glory-hole\/\">lots of fun<\/a> when they go. However of the five I&#8217;ve signed up for, three have been canceled at the last minute. That&#8217;s not great odds. I&#8217;d love to do a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shearwaterjourneys.com\/\">West Coast pelagic out of Monterey Bay<\/a>. Maybe the weather&#8217;s a little more predictable out there. Their season seems to run from August through October. All my West Coast birding gets done around conferences I speak at so I can afford the trip.
