I&#8217;m not a big customer, but I buy something from them every year or two on average: a PC, a laptop, a TV, a replacement part, a monitor, something. Mostly I&#8217;ve been satisfied with my purchases, but the more stories <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gripe2ed.com\/scoop\/story\/2006\/10\/9\/04413\/3311\">like this one<\/a> I hear, the more I think I&#8217;m not going to buy from them again. I&#8217;ve been lucky so far, but I don&#8217;t want to take any more chances.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t think the bean counters at these companies recognize just how much damage poor products and support do to them over the long run. In the short term, they save money on support calls and returns that erode their profit margins. In the long term, more and more people just become unwilling to consider buying from them, and their marketshare erodes to a small fraction of its former level. <\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s well known that it&#8217;s much harder to acquire a new customer than to keep an old one.  What isn&#8217;t so well known is that once you lose a customer, it&#8217;s almost impossible to get them back. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been a regular Dell customer for years.
