Plumage-wise it looks a little like a domestic Greylag Goose, but notice how much smaller it is than the adjacent Canada Goose. My first reaction when I saw it in silhouette  was that it was a Cackling Goose, but no cackler ever looked like this:<\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/www.elharo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/greaterwhitefrontedgoose.jpg' alt='Greater White-fronted Goose swimming next to Canada Goose' width='640' height='355' \/><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Numerous other birds were seen yesterday morning including my first California Peregrine Falcon and Belted Kingfisher. Later in the day I added one more, Black Skimmer. <\/p>\n<p>Total species count for the morning walk was 41:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> \tGreater White-fronted Goose  \t<\/li>\n<li>\tCanada Goose \t<\/li>\n<li>\tGadwall \t<\/li>\n<li>\tMallard \t<\/li>\n<li>\tCinnamon Teal \t<\/li>\n<li>\tNorthern Shoveler \t<\/li>\n<li>\tCanvasback \t<\/li>\n<li>\tRing-necked Duck \t<\/li>\n<li>\tSurf Scoter \t<\/li>\n<li>\tBufflehead \t<\/li>\n<li>\tCommon Goldeneye \t<\/li>\n<li>\tCommon Merganser \t<\/li>\n<li>\tRuddy Duck \t<\/li>\n<li>\tPied-billed Grebe \t<\/li>\n<li>\tEared Grebe \t<\/li>\n<li>\tWestern Grebe \t<\/li>\n<li>\tDouble-crested Cormorant \t<\/li>\n<li>\tSnowy Egret \t<\/li>\n<li>\tBlack-crowned Night-Heron \t<\/li>\n<li>\tPeregrine Falcon \t<\/li>\n<li>\tAmerican Coot \t<\/li>\n<li>\tBlack-necked Stilt \t<\/li>\n<li>\tAmerican Avocet \t<\/li>\n<li>\tWillet \t<\/li>\n<li>\tRing-billed Gull \t<\/li>\n<li>\tCalifornia Gull \t<\/li>\n<li>\tHerring Gull \t<\/li>\n<li>\tMourning Dove \t<\/li>\n<li>\tAnna&#8217;s Hummingbird \t<\/li>\n<li>\tBelted Kingfisher \t<\/li>\n<li>\tBlack Phoebe \t<\/li>\n<li>\tAmerican Crow \t<\/li>\n<li>\tBushtit \t<\/li>\n<li>\tAmerican Robin \t<\/li>\n<li>\tNorthern Mockingbird \t<\/li>\n<li>\tCalifornia Towhee \t<\/li>\n<li>\tSong Sparrow \t<\/li>\n<li>\tWhite-crowned Sparrow \t<\/li>\n<li>\tGolden-crowned Sparrow \t<\/li>\n<li>\tHouse Finch \t<\/li>\n<li>\tAmerican Goldfinch \t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>My California list is now 148 species, just 4 short of number 2 New Jersey. My New York list is somewhere over 250 (I didn&#8217;t keep such good records when I was just starting out) but with a full year yet to go, California may top that. My lifelist should easily cross 400 this year with all these great new California birds.
