Hmm, maybe I spoke too soon. In what I can only surmise is simply Murphy’s Law at work, for some reason Thunderbird today started to move all my metalab.unc.edu e-mail into my Junk folder so that wasn’t getting through either. I’ve now recovered that, but bleah. It never rains but it pours. <\/p>\n
Hmm, you know. Yes! That’s it! Thunderbird’s spam filters went into overdrive sometime around 8:00 PM yesterday evening and began classifying all<\/strong> e-mail as junk, no exceptions. (Apparently there is one exception: accoounts in my address book are not listed as Junk. That’s why the test messages I sent from me to me still got through.) Now how to fix it? Let me turn on Junk mail logging and reset the adaptive filters.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, maybe I should be looking for another e-mail program. Anything decent out there? Eudora (my old standby for years) is dead, and never really could handle HTML mail. GMail doesn’t have keyboard shortcuts. Is Apple Mail maybe finally usable? Is Thunderbird 3 going to be any better?<\/p>\n I need to be able to manage large quantities of mail very quickly. That means single key keyboard shortcuts for deleting, junking, archiving, labeling, and so forth. That’s a must-have feature. I need to go to the next message with n, not Command-n or Ctrl-n or Shift-n but n. The delete key should delete the message and move me to the next one, immediately. I also need macros and or AppleScript support. <\/p>\n Reliable spam filters are a sad must have these days; as are preferences not to load images and send return receipts.<\/p>\n Finally I want a full window for each message; no three-pane monstrosities that waste my valuable screen real estate. Fact is, I’m only looking at one pane at a time. Why put the other two up there?
