The zoo&#8217;s definitely worth a trip. It specializes in Icelandic animals, native and otherwise: Icelandic foxes, horses, mink, goats, cows, pigs, Gyrfalcon, etc. I couldn&#8217;t count the captive Gyrfalcon, but I couldn&#8217;t avoid Redwing if I tried. There were dozens everywhere:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.elharo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/untitled.jpg\" alt=\"Redwing in bare tree with red berries\" title=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1003527\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.elharo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/untitled.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.elharo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/untitled-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nApparently they&#8217;ve been increasing in urban areas of Iceland as more and more trees are planted, and the Gardens were perfect for them. Also present were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Graylag Goose    <\/li>\n<li>Mallard     <\/li>\n<li>Rock Pigeon     <\/li>\n<li> Wren   <\/li>\n<li>Eurasian Blackbird     <\/li>\n<li>European Starling     <\/li>\n<li>Common Redpoll     <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Wren was a special surprise. It flew right into the focus of my camera as I was trying to get a shot of a Redpoll.<\/p>\n<p>Total Iceland list now stands at 26. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today Beth and I drove back to Reykjavik to visit the zoo and Botanical Gardens, and do a bit of shopping.
