In the shortest category, short stories, all the nominees are very literary and tend toward magical realism. There isn&#8217;t a hard or even soft SF story in the bunch:<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153If You Were a Dinosaur, My Love\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <\/strong>by  Rachel Swirsky (<em>Apex Magazine<\/em>, Mar-2013)<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Ink Readers of Doi Saket\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <\/strong>by  Thomas Olde Heuvelt (<em>Tor.com<\/em>, 04-2013)<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Selkie Stories Are for Losers\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <\/strong>by  Sofia Samatar (<em>Strange Horizons<\/em>, Jan-2013)<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Water That Falls on You from  Nowhere\u00e2\u20ac\u009d <\/strong>by John Chu (<em>Tor.com<\/em>, 02-2013)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>They&#8217;re all extremely well written, and on the boring side. (I.e. heavy on literary flourishes and character; light on plot.) I honestly can&#8217;t remember which I voted for now that the voting has closed.
