First Prize!

Sand Wasp, Bicyrtes quadrifasciatus


I’ve been entering some of my photos in various contests for a little under a year now, and this Bicyrtes quadrifasciatus took first prize in the 2012 NYC Audubon Camera Club Contest. It’s my first photo to place in a contest.

This Brown Pelican from Jim Neiger and Doug Brown’s 2011 West Coast Flight School at Bolsa Chica just missed making the final cut as well:

The judges weren’t as fond of my third entry. a pair of Royal Terns I shot in Cuba. They thought it was too closely cropped. It’s one of my few shots where a full frame camera or a shorter lens might have helped, but it’s still one of my personal favorites:

Next stop: BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year. :-)
