3 Rules for California Birding

  1. If you see a small, non-descript gray bird and you don’t know what it is, it’s a Bushtit.
  2. If you see a medium-sized, non-descript brown bird and you don’t know what it is, it’s a
    California Towhee.
  3. If you see a small, non-descript yellow bird and you don’t know what it is, it’s an Orange-crowned Warbler.

    nearly impossible to tell beyond the generic are the sea gulls. Good luck with those and welcome to California. You’ve a long stretch of exceptional bird-watching weather ahead right through October. We call it Indian Summer, but the East Indians I work with say it’s nothing like their summer! heheheh
