The Three Laws of Comic Books

After just watching X-Men 3 (short review: it’s the best one yet. Go see it.) I am reminded of the three immutable laws of life and death in the Marvel Universe:

  • If you don’t see the body, they aren’t dead.

  • If you do see the body, they’ll come back to life.

  • Only Uncle Ben stays dead.

Wasn’t Bucky also used as an example of staying dead, which of course he’s finally been brought back to life as the “Winter Soldier”.

Uncle Ben was spotted in a recent Spider-Man comic, but he was probably an illusion.

The original version of this law was indeed, “Only Bucky stays dead.” Unfortunately that no longer seems to be true. :-)
